Here’s an update on what our crews are working on this week - improvements to roads, footpaths, street lighting and much more...
Roads and footpaths – carriageway patching is being carried out in Heatherdale, Kingfisher Way, Barnes Wallis Drive and Bader Close in Apley, and the High Street in Hadley. Get live updates on street works and traffic management schemes in Telford here.
Residential parking – crews are working in Old Wharf, Malinslee to make improvements to residential parking provision.
Footbridges and other structures – Crews still working on the Priorslee boardwalk – the largest footbridge was completed before Christmas, and work has now started on the smaller one. Work to fill in two little-used underpasses in Randlay Avenue (near Catherton and Arundel Close) also started today. Once filled, the embankments to either side of the underpasses will be top soiled ready for grass seeding to tie in with the surroundings. New footpaths linking to existing footpaths will then be created. Work is expected to take 16 weeks to complete.
Drainage – the second stage of work in Edgmond Road, Newport to improve the existing highway drainage near the junction with Stone Bridge starts. Drainage investigations in Station Road Dawley also start, as do investigations in Roden (B5062) after the recent verge collapse.
Winter maintenance – our gritters will be out as and when needed. Here’s the Met Office 5 day forecast for Telford.
Potholes - crews are filling potholes that have been reported to us. Please report any potholes you spot here or via the Everyday Telford app.
Street lighting – crews are working on upgrading street lights in Wellington/Wrockwardine, Great Dawley, and Hollinswood and Randlay. As the teams upgrade the street lights in each area, they inspect each column and light first. In some cases, the column needs replacing and so it will be at this point that the new LEDs are installed. Some are in need of further inspection, and so these too are being done later. The full LED programme will be completed by April. If you have a question about street lighting, please email email@example.com.
Improvements in Hollies Road and surrounding area in Wellington – crews are finishing of some signing and speed cushion works, which are likely to be completed in the week of 21 January. Final work to the surfacing of Cranage Crescent and Steventon Road will be done on 18 January and should last no more than a day. More information, including FAQs and contact details here.
Grounds maintenance and litter picking – crews are out and about doing seasonal jobs. You can report a grounds maintenance issue here. Anyone wanting to report an issue with littering in their area can do so here.
Environmental enforcement – our officers are investigating a Christmas fly tip reported to us (mix of Christmas cards, chocolate tins, shoe boxes and unwanted clothing). A potential offender has been identified and will be invited in for interview under caution, which could lead to a substantial fine. There really is no excuse for fly tipping, as Household Recycling Centres are open daily – details here. If you spot a fly tip, please report it to here.
Street Champions – a group of our Street Champions are teaming up with Telford Woods and Telford Mind tomorrow (8 January) to clean up woodlands in Madeley ready for woodland work and craft sessions which will be happening soon. Anyone who is free and wants to help out is welcome along – they are meeting at 1.15pm at Court Street Doctors (where Madeley Court School used to be), and setting off into the woods at 1.30pm. Details about volunteering as a Street Champion and other volunteering opportunities here.
